Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select and apply lighting to a range of subjects in different work spaces.It applies to individuals who use light and shoot photos in a variety of contexts, including the fashion industry, advertising, live entertainment and screen and media, as well as those who use photography as a creative medium.Testing and tagging of electrical equipment must be carried out by a person with the relevant certificate of competency according to the performance specifications of Australian Standard 3760: 2000 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and Australian Standard 3002: 1985 Electrical installations – shows and carnivals.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

a range of professional lighting equipment and accessories

a professional camera and accessories

photographic materials

suitable subjects, models and props.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

explain the operation and functions of a range of professional lighting equipment and accessories

explain the set up and effects of a range of lighting techniques used in professional photo imaging

explain ways to adjust camera settings for lighting

summarise health and safety considerations for the use of lighting and equipment in photo imaging contexts

outline end of shoot procedures.
