Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to monitor and coordinate production operations in specialist areas, such as lighting, audio, stage management, vision systems, costume, sets, props, scenic art and staging.Individuals who apply these skills work autonomously as they take responsibility for organising workflow and supervising production operations in their specialist area.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

technical production equipment

a venue where a production can be staged venues

interaction with a team to reflect the collaborative nature of the skills in this unit.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

  • Liaise with key production personnel to ensure that approach to production operations takes account of both creative and technical issues

Evidence of the ability to:

coordinate operations in at least one technical area for at least one production or event in line with production requirements

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

describe issues and challenges that typically arise when realising productions in selected area of expertise, and suggest ways of addressing them

describe key aspects of the overall technical and creative production process for different types of live productions

explain the relationships between key artistic and technical personnel

explain key principles that underpin effective delegation

explain how problem-solving and decision-making processes and techniques are applied in the context of coordinating production operations

provide examples of work health and safety issues that affect the coordination of production operations.
