Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to adapt performance techniques in the context of performing to a camera for television or film productions, multimedia displays or online environments.While supervision and guidance are provided in practice sessions and rehearsals, performers are expected to display a high level of motivation and responsibility for themselves and others during film shoots.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

a typical film shoot location

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Element: Prepare for film shoots
  • Discuss the intention and key aspects of film shoots with relevant personnel
  • Apply a knowledge of screen industry terminology in preparations and discussion
  • Clarify specific work practices and health and safety issues relevant to working on film sets
       
Element: Develop techniques for performing to camera
  • Follow safe performance practices at all times to prevent injury to self and others
  • Accept direction from relevant personnel about ways to adapt performance during shooting
  • Demonstrate awareness of shot sizes, and ability to hit a mark and work to camera framing
  • Repeat segments and shots according to requirements of shoots or performance
  • Perform segments in a random order, according to requirements of shoot or performance

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

explain how to take account of framing and camera angles when performing to camera

describe issues and challenges that typically arise when performing to camera and suggest ways of addressing them

provide examples of safe performance practices in relation to own performance genre

describe the key aspects in the process of setting up and running a film shoot

describe health and safety principles and procedures that performers need to observe when participating in film shoots.
