Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to interpret musical scores in conjunction with musical specialists to determine and deliver technical elements of productions in the screen, media, entertainment and events industries.Individuals who apply these skills are expected to display initiative, judgement and responsibility as they apply analytical and communication skills to the process of plotting cues from musical scores and delivering technical elements from scores during performances.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to musical scores and performances which require the plotting and managing of cues from scores.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Element: Interpret musical scores
  • In consultation with musical specialists as required, analyse scores to identify technical requirements
  • Confirm interpretation of technical requirements with relevant personnel and take direction on changes
  • Make accurate notations on scores according to information received
       
Element: Prepare technical references from scores
  • Prepare technical references according to musical and literary text and in a format that meets organisational requirements
  • Plot technical elements, including appropriate technical notations
  • Clearly note cues that relate to musical performances
  • Identify and discuss issues that need to be addressed in consultation with others involved in plotting cues for performances
  • Update documentation to reflect outcome of discussions as required
  • Finalise documentation according to timelines and incorporate with other production documentation

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

describe the main features of musical scores and how they relate to the process of plotting cues from scores

explain the range of notations used to create accurate technical references from scores

describe issues and challenges that can arise when plotting and managing cues from scores, along with solutions to address them.
