Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to build a safe and healthy career in the live performance industry. At this level individuals are learning about and applying safe dance practice in classes, rehearsals and performances under the supervision of experienced dancers and dance teachers.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to appropriate dance performance areas or spaces.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Element: Apply an understanding of anatomy and physiology to movement
  • Identify the basic structure of the human body
  • Apply principles of correct posture and body alignment to basic dance movements
  • Discuss with relevant personnel the purpose and benefits of warm-up and warm-down procedures
  • Practise a range of warm-up and warm-down exercises
  • Discuss with relevant personnel the importance of healthy nutrition to dance performance

  • Identify the causes of common dance injuries

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

describe the relationship between the following systems in the human body and safe dance practice:

articular

circulatory

nervous

describe how the following contribute to safe dance practice and injury prevention:

articulation of the spine

engagement of the feet

support provided by feet, legs, hands, arms and torso

the way joints move

differentiation of the legs and pelvis

healthy nutrition and diet.
