Description This unit covers the competency required to supervise and control all aspects of the operation of indirect fire weapons.While this work will be undertaken under the commander's direction the individual must be able to act independently as required by the circumstances.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. In a Defence context, this means that there is no civilian need to hold this unit in order to meet licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements.

Learning Outcomes and Application This competency was developed for combat arms personnel required to supervise and control all aspects of the operation of a indirect fire weapons in a deployed operational environment but is applicable to any individual in this field of work.Typically, individuals work as part of a team under direct and/or indirect supervision, but also must be prepared to act independently, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policies and procedures.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Context of assessment

Competency should be assessed in a simulated operational environment due to the high cost of ammunition. The simulation should replicate the live environment where stress and fatigue are key features.

Specific resources for assessment

Access to a live fire range, competent indirect fire weapon crew, the indirect fire weapon, and live ammunition.
