Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to purge explosive ordnance or containers.It includes preparing for explosive ordnance testing, conducting and monitoring purging and finalising purging procedures.This unit applies to persons who are required to purge explosive ordnance or containers.Purging of explosive ordnance or containers is required to be performed on a range of explosive ordnance and specialised containers during maintenance processes.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that reflect workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

acceptable means of simulation assessment

applicable documentation, including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and PPE currently used in industry.

Element: Prepare for testing
  • Identify and confirm purging requirements from work requests/instructions
  • Apply relevant work health and safety (WHS) requirements, including those contained in organisational procedures, throughout the operation
  • Identify, acquire and prepare technical references, tools and equipment required for the tests
  • Identify, acquire, prepare, move and position explosive ordnance or containers in preparation for the task, in accordance with operational procedures
  • Prepare purging equipment and set required flow and pressure specifications in accordance with operational procedures
  • Identify, calculate, assess and apply net explosive quantities and compatibility throughout the operation in accordance with organisational procedures
  • Monitor and maintain environmental conditions in accordance with organisational procedures
