Learning Outcomes and Application This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required by an intelligence supervisor working across the spectrum of strategic, operational and tactical environments.It includes planning, preparing, conducting and finalising intelligence operations.This unit applies to Defence intelligence operatives although it could apply to any personnel working in this field.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work independently or as part of a team, and perform complex tasks in unfamiliar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations, where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions. This includes assessment in a minimum of two environments, which must include the following:

protective security

combat intelligence

specialist intelligence disciplines.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

intelligence workers

relevant communication and information technology equipment and data

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or other simulations

relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry

applicable documentation including operational procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two separate occasions and include:

accessing and using resources

applying logical process when planning and problemsolving

conducting briefings and debriefings

counselling subordinates and evaluating performance

developing instructions from given orders

disseminating information and providing technical advice

planning and coordinating protective security operations

preparing and writing reports

presenting logical and structured arguments

processing and maintaining workplace information

reading, interpreting and applying relevant legislation, policies and procedures

using a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, including:

giving and receiving workplace feedback

working as part of a team

working with minimal supervision.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

logical processes including:

intelligence preparation of the battlefield

military appreciation process

war gaming

relevant battle procedures and constraints

relevant legal responsibilities must include one or more of the following:

Geneva conventions and protocols

international laws

laws of armed conflict

rules of engagement

state/territory legislation

relevant legislation and procedures in relation to environmental requirements and rules of engagement

relevant organisational policies and procedures including:

work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation

equipment

material and personal safety requirements

risk assessments

troop and personnel movement requirements

workplace communication strategies.
