Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to perform hydrostatic and continuity testing of petroleum hoses.It includes preparing for and performing fuel hose testing process, and finalising test procedures.This unit applies to persons working as petroleum operators in Defence but is applicable to any individual in this field of work.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work independently and as part of a team under supervision, and perform routine tasks in a range of contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations, where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or other simulations

relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry including:

workplace specific fuel hoses

specific test equipment

relevant industry standards, and workplace operating procedures and publications

applicable documentation including operational procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying relevant legislation, and organisational policies and procedures

compiling test documentation

interpreting relevant industry testing requirements and standards

operating hydrostatic and continuity test equipment

performing tests at stipulated intervals including:

hydrostatic pressure test

continuity test

handling hoses that fail testing procedures including:

quarantining hose

reporting to relevant personnel

performing multiple tests on different sizes and types of petroleum hoses used in the workplace.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

hose serviceability

purging equipment

relevant dangerous/hazardous goods codes including:

segregation and storage requirements

relevant industry standards including:

hose and hose assemblies for distribution of petroleum and petroleum products

relevant organisational policies and procedures

safety requirements including:

bunding

location of testing

personal protective equipment

pressure in accordance with relevant industry standards

manufacturer specifications

stakeholder communication

test equipment including:

multimeter

hydraulic pressure tester

use of common hand tools and specialist equipment.
