Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to identify, sort and rack hardwood or softwood material in a forest products factory settings. The unit includes verification of material to ensure appropriate quality and separation of material with faults. The unit applies to Kiln Worker, Treatment Plant Worker, Sawmill Worker, Production Worker , Manufacturing Assistant (Timber Products) ,Timber Manufacturing Worker, Timber Products Worker, Timber Puller. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

The following resources must be made available:

tools and equipment used to rack materials

personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for racking material

commercial quantities of timber materials to be racked

work order with specific instructions for racking material

template documents for recording processes and equipment faults

organisational procedures for racking material.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and
