Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to select appropriate trees for tending operations which involves selecting trees to be thinned, pruned, treated for pests and other tending treatments used to provide a healthy environment for tree and forest growth. Work is completed in in a forest environment setting and involves identifying tree characteristics and marking them for specific treatments. The unit applies to Forestry technician, Nursery technician, Supervisor (Forestry operations), Tree planter, Silviculturist, Arboriculture technicianNo licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available as appropriate: tags tape paint tools for blaze marking personal protective equipment suitable for selecting and marking trees environmental regulations affecting site operations work order with designated methods for tree selection organisational procedures for selecting and marking trees for tending. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
