Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to set up, operate and maintain edge banding machines that use automated processes to apply and finish edge treatments. The unit applies to timber products operators that apply edge banding to timber panels in a wood products factory settingNo licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: tools and equipment used to band edges of panels including: automated edge banding machines mechanical edge banding machines glue-backed veneer edge strip role timber edging strips laminate edge stripping (glue-backed or glued, on a role or in strips) maintenance tools and equipment for edging mechanisms personal protective equipment suitable for banding edges of panels a diverse, comprehensive and commercial product range of panels manufacturers’: instructions for equipment use recommendations for cleaning, repairing and maintaining work order with specific instructions for banding the edges of panels template documents for recording production outcomes and equipment faults organisational procedures for banding edges of panels. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
