Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to start up, operate and store a steam-generating boiler. The unit applies to steam boiler operators in a timber processing plant setting and includes shutting down and cleaning equipment.Licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit in some states & territories at the time of publication and may differ according to jurisdiction. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: steam-generating boilers, including liquid or vapour restricted to water or steam fuel and fuel supply system boiler house chemicals and labels personal protective equipment suitable for operating steam boilers manufacturers’ instructions for use and maintenance of equipment operational order with specific instructions for required steam generation levels and quantities and operating times template documents: operating logs fuel efficiency records records of equipment faults and maintenance requirements organisational procedures for operating steam boilers. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
