Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to coordinate and review stock line operations, stock inventory levels, and stock security: to identify and rectify problems, and to implement ongoing solutions for smooth receipt and dispatch of products. Work is completed in a forest products factory setting.The unit applies to Customer Service/ Sales Assistant, Customer Service Officer, Timber Advisor. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

industry current software programs used to control stock

template stock control documents:

receipt and despatch orders

inventory reports

stock level reports

stock loss reports

quality deficiency reports

organisational policies and procedures for stock control, store and site security.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and

be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.

Element: Monitor stock control
  • Delegate product group recording to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor stock levels and maintain at optimum level in line with organisational procedures.
  • Monitor stock re-order cycles and adjust to maintain consistent supply.
  • Analyse management inventory reports and where required take corrective action.
  • Notify buyers of stock levels in line with organisational procedures.

  • Coordinate distribution of products within organisation in line with organisational procedures.
  • Ensure incoming products and those for despatch are securely stored in designated location.
  • Report anomalies in quantity or quality of received products.
  • Inspect, assess and report stock damage and losses, against loss forecasts, and investigate unacceptable cases.
  • Provide advice to management on appropriate way of dealing with damaged stock.
