Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to maintain sites and facilities used by the public. The unit includes identifying and reporting site hazards and safely handling waste materials. The unit applies to the maintenance of visitor sites in forest environment settings.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

The following resources must be made available:

workplace location or simulated workplace,including camp grounds, toilet and shower blocks and natural features

materials and equipment relevant to undertaking work applicable to this unit, including manual cleaning tools, power tools, petrol-driven lawn mowers,whipper snipper and edger

specifications and work instructions

relevant personnel for the purposes of communicating information

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and

be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. check and order supplies of consumables for cleaning relevant to maintaining visitor sites including:

toilet paper

cleaning chemicals

lawn mower fuel

paint

select and use types of cleaning and maintenance equipment including:

manual cleaning tools

power tools

petrol-driven lawn mowers

whipper snipper and edger

undertake efficient and safe selection, use, transport and storage of equipment and supplies with no damage to equipment, property, environment, colleagues or the public

identify site hazards or unsafe facilities including:

contaminated waste material

visitors moving around adjacent to maintenance activities

unsafe structures

deteriorated structures

natural features or facilities

and demonstrate an appropriate response, including reporting to supervisor

handle and remove waste or contaminated material including:

blood

bandages

sanitary bins

effluent

record and report manually, in a computer based system or other appropriate organisational communication system:

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

work place and site standards, requirements, policies and procedures for maintaining visitor sites including:

identification and handling procedures relevant to environmental risks and hazards, including:

visitors moving around adjacent to maintenance activities

unsafe structures

deteriorated structures

natural features or facilities

types of cleaning and maintenance equipment and procedures for their safe use, including:

types of maintenance supplies and consumables, including:
