Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to plan and monitor the nutrition of a stand of trees.The unit applies to those in management roles in the forest and wood products industry including Forestry Supervisor, Forestry Manager, Propagation and Stand Health Supervisor. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

The following resources must be made available:

relevant organisational procedures, policies and requirements to co-ordinate stand nutrition

relevant personnel for the purposes of communicating information

documents, spreadsheets and commonly used proforma documents

forest area to implement stand nutrition

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and

be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.

Element: Plan stand nutrition
  • Identify site environmental requirements.
  • Obtain and analyse relevant information for impacts on stand nutrition planning.
  • Select methods of ensuring adequate and appropriate level of stand nutrition.
  • Develop and document performance indicators and targets.

  • Communicate with operational staff to explain nutrition plan, activities and roles and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate resources and maintain documentation for fertiliser applications.
  • Monitor the implementation of the nutrition plan and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational procedures, quality, WHS, legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and control potential and existing risks and hazards in the work area.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. ecology and ecological interactions

soil types and structure

types of tools and equipment used for ensuring stand nutrition, and procedures for their use, operation and maintenance.
