Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to dock material to length with a power driven saw and the aid of a mechanical feed which is monitored for flow problems. Work is completed in a forest products factory setting and includes operator maintenance.The unit applies to Sawmill Worker, Production Worker, Timber Grader. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: tools and equipment used to dock boards with mechanical feed: measuring equipment mechanical feed systems one or more of the following power operated manually controlled docking and trimming saws: saws with adjustable angle saws with one blade radial arm saws table saws bench saws saws with automatic feed maintenance tools and equipment for saws consumable saw blades personal protective equipment suitable for docking boards with mechanical feed a selection of timber to be docked manufacturers’: instructions for equipment use recommendations for repairing and maintaining equipment work order with specific instructions for cutting timber template documents for recording equipment faults and maintenance requirements relevant personnel for the purposes of communicating information organisational policies and procedures for docking boards with mechanical feed. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
