Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to align canter rings and chipper heads for wood chipping equipment, which are used for both primary and secondary processing of solid wood products. Work is completed in a forest products factory setting.The unit applies to Sawdoctor, Saw Repairer, Sawyer. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: tools and equipment used to align sawing production systems: tools for removing and adjusting mechanical parts jigs precision measuring equipment laser equipment surveying instruments portable electrical lighting feeler gauges engineers rules vernier callipers micrometers plumb lines piano wire or string lines pointer markers portable computers that re-calibrate machine settings wood chipping equipment with canter rings and chipper heads personal protective equipment suitable for aligning sawing production systems manufacturers’ instructions for use, repair and maintenance of equipment work order for repair and maintenance activities with specific instructions for aligning canter rings and chipper heads in specified equipment equipment history records template documents for recording processing and equipment faults organisational policies and procedures for aligning sawing production systems. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
