Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to position blades in jigs or vices, produce bevels along the back clearance angles of teeth, check blade clearance requirements and set teeth to site requirements. Work is completed in a forest products factory setting.The unit applies to Sawdoctor, Saw Repairer, Sawyer.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: tools and equipment used to file and set saw blades: jigs vices setting instruments; levers and gauges automatic or hand-held grinders bevel files one or more of the following types of saws to be repaired and maintained: hand saws band saws circular saws gang saws personal protective equipment suitable for filing and setting saw blades manufacturers’ instructions for use, repair and maintenance of equipment work order for repair and maintenance activities with specific instructions for filing and setting saw blades in specified equipment relevant personel for the purposes of communicating information template documents for recording processing and equipment faults organisational policies and procedures for filing and setting saw blades. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
