Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to prepare and re-saw material to width and on the thickness with a power driven saw to optimise timber conversion and usability. Work includes non-specialist saw maintenance and is completed in a forest and wood products factory setting.The unit applies to Sawyer, Saw Operator, Machine Operator, Timber Products Technician. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: one or more of the following items of conversion equipment: automatic feed controlled ripping saws saws with adjustable thickness (sloping table) saws with one blade rip saws table saws bench saws measuring equipment maintenance tools and equipment for saws consumable components; saw blades a diverse, comprehensive and commercial product range of timber personal protective equipment suitable for conversion activities manufacturers’ instructions for use and maintenance of equipment work order for conversion activities with specific instructions for the cutting and storage of timber and timber products template reports for recording processing and equipment faults relevant personnel for the purposes of communicating information organisational procedures for conversion activities. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence |
