Qualification -
Unit of Competency FWPTMM5204 - Manage product design
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to clarify and confirm design objectives and to manage all design processes ready for production acceptance. Work involves managing the performance of a design team and is completed in a forest products factory environment. The unit applies to Timber Designer, Production Manager (Timber Truss and Frame). No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

The following resources must be made available:

computers, keyboards, printers and software used to document plans and reports

comprehensive information about the operation of a real or simulated design job to manage plans and outcomes

template design work plans, reports and certification documents

organisational procedures for managing product designs

a design team with whom the individual can interact

relevant personnel for the purposes of communicating information

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and

be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
