Qualification -
Unit of Competency FWPWPP3231 - Produce veneer from prepared flitches
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to operate a vertical or horizontal slicing machine to produce leaves of timber veneers from prepared flitches. The unit includes operator maintenance. The unit applies to production officers and technicians who produce veneers from prepared flitches in a forest and wood products factory setting.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit in some states and territories at the time of publication, and may differ according to jurisdiction.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

The following resources must be made available:

work order

safe work procedure for producing veneer from prepared flitches

personal protective equipment required to produce veneer from prepared flitches

first aid equipment

vertical or horizontal slicing machine

prepared flitches

relevant personnel for the purposes of communicating information

manual or computer-based information recording systems for recording production, quality and fault information.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and

be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
