Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain predetermined stock levels of supplies, consumables, equipment and other store items at ward, unit, sub-store or departmental level.This unit applies to a variety of health or community service roles involving stock maintenance. At this level workers perform under supervision and generally within a team environment within predetermined guidelines. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Skills must have been demonstrated in a workplace or a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions. The following conditions must be met for this unit:

use of suitable facilities equipment and resources, including:

stock and storage facilities

personal protective equipment

manual and electronic documentation and records for stock maintenance

modelling of industry operating conditions.

Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.

Element: Elements define the essential outcomes.
       
Element: Maintain and monitor stock levels
  • Monitor quality of stock and storage conditions, including temperature, light, humidity, pest control and stock organisation
  • Determine store requirements against specified stock levels
  • Replenish stores and stationery items
  • Rotate perishable stock according to use-by dates
  • Report deviations to supervisor according to organisation procedures
       
Element: Prepare order lists and forward stock
  • Complete accurate inventory list of stock requirements
  • Record stock requirements and order number in ordering system and prepare order
  • Obtain authorisation for order from supervisor and forward to appropriate department
  • Update inventory list based on stock usage and inventory change
       
Element: Receive and store goods
  • Receive and check stock against order and record received stock in the order book
  • Notify supervisor if received order is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Unpack stock and store in the designated location

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

completed at least 2 inventory lists of stock requirements and prepared associated orders on 2 separate occasions

received, checked and ordered stock against 2 separate orders, including unpacking, storing and reporting errors to supervisor.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

relevant organisation procedures, including:

workplace health and safety (WHS)

manual handling

personal protective equipment

stock control and maintenance, including:

inventory taking

verbal, written and electronic ordering

expiry dates on perishable items

storage and stock rotation

manual and electronic documentation and records.
