Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to ensure that repairs and maintenance are undertaken for functional and durable health hardware. This unit applies to work in a public health context and workers at this level will work under supervision and within defined guidelines.Plumbing work must only be performed by a person authorised by registration or licence granted by the relevant state or territory regulatory authority under legislation.The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions. Where simulation is used, it must reflect real working conditions by modelling industry operating conditions and contingencies as well as using suitable facilities, equipment and resources.

Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.

Element: Gather information on the provision of functional and durable health hardware in the household and community
  • Obtain information on the methods used to monitor and assess repairs and maintenance of community and household health hardware
  • Obtain information on the health hardware items purchased and used to repair, replace and maintain their housing stock
  • Consult community members and householders to determine the success of the methods being used in relation to the ongoing provision of functional and durable health hardware
  • Identify gaps that exist in relation to the provision of ongoing, functional and durable health hardware in the community
  • Report to supervisor feedback from community members and identified gaps

1. Gather information on the provision of functional and durable health hardware in the household and community

1.1 Obtain information on the methods used to monitor and assess repairs and maintenance of community and household health hardware

1.2 Obtain information on the health hardware items purchased and used to repair, replace and maintain their housing stock

1.3 Consult community members and householders to determine the success of the methods being used in relation to the ongoing provision of functional and durable health hardware

1.4 Identify gaps that exist in relation to the provision of ongoing, functional and durable health hardware in the community

1.5 Report to supervisor feedback from community members and identified gaps

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has

obtained information on at least 2 separate households to identify gaps that may exist in relation to the provision of ongoing, functional and durable health hardware in the community

developed and implemented work plans to address the identified risks to health hardware.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

legal and organisation considerations relating to provision of functional, durable health hardware items in home and community, including:

national, State/Territory and local health policies, goals, targets and priorities relevant to identifying health needs

community reporting processes for repairs and maintenance requirements

community processes for funding repairs and maintenance

scope of own role and responsibilities

roles and responsibilities of key people or agency responsibilities

points of contact to assist with the implementation of strategies which are outside own area of responsibility

durable health hardware items appropriate to the region

health hardware within a house that may require repair or replacement

philosophies and principles in relation to housing for health
