Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify assets and threats
  • Identify types of information assets in the organisation
  • Identify mechanisms by which information assets are accessed, transmitted and stored
  • Establish nature of threats to information assets and determine the impact that loss or damage may have to the organisation
       
Element: Secure assets
  • Identify the actions, mechanisms and strategies to protect information assets
  • Secure assets within scope of authority and report these issues to appropriate person and other issues where it is outside scope of authority
       
Element: Mitigate or prevent damage to assets
  • Identify signs and evidence that information assets are threatened or undergoing loss or damage
  • Provide first level response to reduce impacts, mitigate damage and protect evidence

Evidence of the following is essential:

Assessment must confirm the ability to conduct research and discuss various security issues relating to Information assets.

Assessment must confirm the ability to examine and discuss examples of different actions using case studies

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Threats to information assets is ever present and an appropriate understanding of how these assets should be protected and the response and actions in the event of an attack, loss or damaging event is important for every individual in the workplace.

The breadth, depth and complexity of knowledge and skills in this competency would prepare a person to perform in a range of varied activities or knowledge applications where there is a clearly defined range of contexts in which the choice of actions required is usually clear. There would generally be limited complexity in the range of operations to be applied.

Performance of a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and some accountability for the quality of outcomes would be characteristic.

Applications may include some complex or non-routine activities involving individual responsibility or autonomy and/or collaboration with others as part of a group or team.

To demonstrate this unit of competency the learner will require access to:

Method of assessment

The purpose of this unit is to define the standard of performance to be achieved in the workplace.

In undertaking training and assessment activities related to this unit, consideration should be given to the implementation of appropriate diversity and accessibility practices in order to accommodate people who may have special needs.

The following assessment method is appropriate for this unit:

Assessment of this unit of Competency will usually include observation of real or simulated work processes and procedures, quality projects, questioning on underpinning knowledge and skills. This competency can be assessed in the workplace or in a simulated environment. Simulated activities must closely reflect the workplace to fully demonstrate Competency.

Competency in this unit needs to be assessed using summative assessment to ensure consistency of performance in a range of contexts.

An individual demonstrating this competency would be able to:

Assess and record information from varied sources

Take limited responsibility for own outputs in work and learning
