Issue Date: April 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency ICPPRP260 - Proof images
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to proof images, including chemical or digital, and prepare the proof for the next stage of production. It applies to individuals in the printing and graphic art industry who design and prepare layouts and artwork, and manipulate images and texts to meet production requirements. They generally work under direct supervision. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the Pre-Press field of work and include access to special purpose tools, equipment and industry software packages.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Set up and maintain proofing equipment
  • Proofing equipment is set up and maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications and enterprise standards
  • The working environment is cleaned and maintained to ensure proof quality
  • Proofing materials are used cost efficiently according to job contract costs

Element: Expose and process proof
  • Quality control of proof is maintained according to job specifications
  • Images are positioned accurately on proof according to job specifications
  • Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements are observed to ensure safe use of equipment
  • Proof is prepared for presentation ready for next stage of the process

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1 Set up and maintain proofing equipment

1.1 Proofing equipment is set up and maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications and enterprise standards

1.2 The working environment is cleaned and maintained to ensure proof quality

1.3 Proofing materials are used cost efficiently according to job contract costs

2 Expose and process proof

2.1 Quality control of proof is maintained according to job specifications

2.2 Images are positioned accurately on proof according to job specifications

2.3 Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements are observed to ensure safe use of equipment

2.4 Proof is prepared for presentation ready for next stage of the process

Evidence of the ability to:

prepare and set up proofing area to produce digital or chemical proofs of TWO four-colour separated images according to listed performance criteria. (Since underlying skills associated with digital or chemical proofing should be transferable across a range of systems, it is important to identify substrates along with the associated printing process that is being simulated.)

position images accurately on proof according to job specifications so proof is ready for the next stage

find and use information relevant to the task from a variety of information sources.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe work health and safety (WHS) issues in proofing area

outline main considerations for setting up the proofing environment

explain how correct exposure levels for the proofing system are chosen

identify actinic light requirements

name aids used to control and ensure repeatability in proofing

describe considerations when matching a proof to output requirements

identify correct stock for output device

explain how incorrect processing of chemical proof is identified

outline corrective action to take if incorrect processing occurs

list main criteria for proof evaluation

describe lighting conditions required for evaluating proofs

list special requirements for Pantone Matching System (PMS) proofs

list manuals, safety and other documentation relevant to this task and identify where they are kept and what information is included.

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

2.3 Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements are observed to ensure safe use of equipment

2.4 Proof is prepared for presentation ready for next stage of the process

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
