Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency ICTICT603 - Manage the use of appropriate development methodologies
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to nominate the most appropriate traditional or non-traditional systems development methodologies for use by a team.It applies to individuals who work in senior information and communications technology (ICT) management roles and are required to manage development teams. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the general information and communications technology (ICT) industry, and include access to:

design specifications and current development methodologies

organisational standards for documentation and version control

detailed user requirements document, including model and scope

a project plan.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine and select appropriate development methodology for a given activity
  • Determine and define subject activity
  • Define criteria for selection of development methodology
  • Review and evaluate with project leader a range of traditional and non-traditional system development methodologies
  • Select appropriate system development methodology to suit the activity
  • Brief project team on selected methodology

Element: Direct the use of the selected development methodology
  • Review the initial project plan to guide developmental processes
  • Review the identification of appropriate task types according to development methodology
  • Review the description and articulation of task types
  • Review the definition of appropriate control structures that need to be created during task type execution
  • Review the identification of resources to support methodology selection
  • Monitor the application of appropriate methodology to solve tasks
  • Monitor the project flow and effectiveness of use of methodology against project plan
  • Review the documented opportunities for improvement, lessons learned and recommendations for future projects

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Evidence of the ability to:

manage a project team

review a project plan

supervise the application of a methodology to a project

evaluate a range of development methodologies and their application to a project or scenario

review documentation as required by the chosen methodology.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline and analyse the client business domain and organisational requirements

discuss the life cycle maintenance of a live system, network or website

describe the role of stakeholders and the degree of stakeholder involvement in the development process

identify and discuss the technology requirements involved for a range of development methodologies

discuss two or more current industry development methodologies.

Submission Requirements

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
