Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency ICTNWK407 - Install and configure client-server applications and services
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install, configure, maintain and support server-side applications as well as client applications on network workstations, in both Windows based and Linux based networks. It applies to individuals working as network administrators and network support staff who implement the installation and configuration of client-server based software. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the network industry, and include access to:

a client-server based network

appropriate client-server software.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

5. Test and sign off

5.1 Test operation of the client-server software to ensure client requirements are met

5.2 Obtain sign-off from appropriate person

Evidence of the ability to:

install and configure server based client-server software

install and configure client software to communicate with appropriate server software

test operation of client-server software

identify and implement required updates for client-server software

monitor performance of client-server software

backup and maintain client-server software.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

summarise the requirements for client-server applications and services, including:

computer hardware and software required

internet protocol (IP) addressing

networking fundamentals

operating systems

identify and describe the operating system help and support utilities required, including:

procedures for implementing backup and recovery

software installation and configuration

user account and password management

troubleshooting tools and techniques

network diagnostic utilities.
