Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency ICTNWK525 - Configure an enterprise virtual computing environment
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement virtualisation technologies, with the goal of providing a more sustainable information and communications technology (ICT) environment. It applies to individuals working as senior networking staff responsible for increasing the sustainability of an organisation, by using virtualisation technologies. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in networking, and include access to:

a site or prototype where virtual machine environments may be implemented

the network’s technical requirements

industry relevant virtualisation software.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Prepare to configure the virtual environment

1.1 Obtain the technical specifications and system requirements from virtualisation software vendors

1.2 Review the environmental requirements for installing the virtualisation software

2. Install and configure the support services

2.1 Install and configure the required services and ports, according to virtualisation software vendors

2.2 Install and configure virtualisation client and server management software, according to the enterprise requirements

2.3 Install, configure and manage environmental requirements to ensure that virtual machines function

2.4 Configure virtual machines, using remote client management software

3. Design and configure the virtual network

3.1 Plan and design the virtual network, according to client needs

3.2 Install and configure the virtual networks

3.3 Verify the functionality of virtualisation network, according to the enterprise requirements

Evidence of the ability to:

obtain the visualisation specifications from vendors, and compare them with the environmental requirements

install, configure and test, virtual machines

manage the environmental requirements

install and use software tools.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify and summarise, current government and industry policies, and guidelines, related to the development of sustainable information and communication technology (ICT) environments

describe the current technologies, and processes, designed to produce a sustainable ICT environment

outline the available tools and software applications required to manage virtual machines

explain the configuration of software applications required to manage virtual machines

explain the configuration required to integrate virtual machines into the existing network design

outline the structure, function and business organisation of the client.

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

3.2 Install and configure the virtual networks

3.3 Verify the functionality of virtualisation network, according to the enterprise requirements

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
