Install an enterprise virtual computing environment

Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency ICTNWK535 - Install an enterprise virtual computing environment
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement, virtualisation technologies to provide a more efficient and reliable information and communications technology (ICT) environment. It applies to senior networking staff responsible for increasing the sustainability of an enterprise. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the network industry, and include access to:

site or prototype, where virtual machine environments may be implemented

the network’s technical requirements

industry relevant virtualisation software.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Element: Plan and install the virtualisation host software
  • Plan and prepare, for the host software installation
  • Obtain and install the virtualisation host platform
  • Test and validate the functionality of the virtualisation host platform, according to the enterprise requirements

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Analyse client needs

1.1 Assess the client requirements

1.2 Assess the existing client or server systems that may be suitable to be virtualised

2. Analyse the virtualisation host software

2.1 Assess and compare suitable virtualisation host software, according to the enterprise requirements

2.2 Document the recommendations and provide these to the appropriate person

3. Evaluate the system requirements

3.1 Obtain and document the technical specifications, licensing and system requirements from the virtualisation software vendors

3.2 Evaluate, and compare, the system requirements needed to implement virtualisation

3.3 Document the recommendations and provide to the appropriate person

4. Plan and install the virtualisation host software

4.1 Plan and prepare, for the host software installation

4.2 Obtain and install the virtualisation host platform

4.3 Test and validate the functionality of the virtualisation host platform, according to the enterprise requirements

Evidence of the ability to:

identify and apply, the suitable tools and software applications required to manage virtual machines

configure the software applications to manage virtual machines

integrate the virtual machines into the existing network design

test and validate the virtualisation.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

determine current government and industry policies, and guidelines, relating to the development of efficient and reliable, information and communications technology (ICT) environments

analyse the current technologies, and processes, designed to produce an efficient and reliable ICT environment

research the current recommendations on sustainability options in ICT design

discuss the benefits of virtualisation

identify and apply, the processes and procedures for installing and configuring virtualisation software and virtual machines

identify and apply, the processes and procedures for configuring virtual machines into network design

determine the structure, functions and business organisation of the client

identify and apply, the available tools and software applications required to manage virtual machines

research the configuration of software applications required to manage virtual machines

research the configuration required to integrate virtual machines into existing network design.

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

ELEMENT

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
