The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required skills and knowledge, range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Evidence of the following is essential:

the planning of the journey and selection of the most appropriate route to destination

ability to drive safely, respectfully and fluently in cortege conditions at correct speed and following designated signalling procedures

knowledge of road laws and regulations to enable the safe and legally compliant operation of funeral vehicles

driving funeral vehicles on multiple occasions to ensure consistency of performance and ability to respond to different situations.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure:

demonstration of skills in an environment where funeral vehicles are operated in general road and funeral cortege conditions

access to relevant documentation, such as street maps or directories

access to electronic communication equipment

access to a funeral vehicle.

Methods of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of candidate planning and preparing for journey, driving the vehicle while monitoring traffic and road conditions, and using electronic equipment

written or verbal questioning to assess knowledge and understanding of relevant workplace policies and procedures with regard to planning and preparing the journey, and driving funeral vehicles while observing relevant legislation

review of workplace documents completed by candidate

review of portfolios of evidence and third-party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate.

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended, for example:

SIFFNL002A Assist with the conduct of a funeral

SIFTVM002A Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment.

Employability skills embedded in this unit should be assessed holistically with other relevant units that make up the skill set or qualification and in the context of the job role.
