Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to organise and monitor terminal or wharf operations in accordance with standards, regulations and workplace requirements, as part of work activities in the stevedoring, transport, distribution and/or allied industries.It includes organising equipment, machinery and personnel; managing potential risks; monitoring work performance and progress; monitoring the status of pending work; solving problems and making decisions; completing all shift requirements; and preparing for the next shift. Work is performed under some supervision generally within a team environment. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment. Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions including limited or restricted spaces, exposed conditions and controlled or open environments. Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate. Resources for assessment include: a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations relevant and appropriate materials, tools and equipment currently used in industry personal protective equipment, including gloves safety headwear and footwear safety glasses two-way radios protective clothing high visibility clothing applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals. |
