Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate specialised light load shifting equipment, in accordance with relevant state/territory codes, licence and/or permit and workplace requirements and regulations in the stevedoring, transport, warehousing and/or logistics industries.It includes planning work for current working conditions; using controls and equipment operating systems to manage moving a unit and accessory operations; locating load and identifying load characteristics; moving materials and loads; monitoring and operating controls; and stopping, parking and securing equipment after operation.Safety checks and equipment tests are performed under limited supervision.Where the specialised light load shifting equipment operated is considered to be high risk work, the operator must hold a high risk work licence.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment include:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry.

operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures

operating electronic communications equipment to required protocol

reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs

reporting and/or rectifying identified problems, faults or malfunctions promptly, in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures

selecting and using relevant gear and accessories when operating specialised light load shifting equipment

selecting and using required personal protective equipment conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards

servicing equipment in terms of maintenance schedule and standard operating procedures

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.

relevant permit and licence requirements

site layout and obstacles

operational safety requirements and precautions for specialised light load shifting equipment concerned

operational work systems, equipment, management and site operating systems for operating specialised light load shifting equipment

problems that may occur and appropriate action that can be taken to resolve these problems

purpose, characteristics, capabilities, requirements and limitations of specialised light load shifting equipment

relevant regulations for operating specialised light load shifting equipment, including current ADG Code and relevant bond, quarantine or other legislative requirements

relevant WHS/OHS and environmental protection procedures and guidelines
