Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to advise customers on security and safety requirements within international freight transport, and to manage the security and safety arrangements for international freight. This includes assessing international freight transport security and safety risks, specifying international transport security and safety requirements, implementing transport security and safety plans and policies, and monitoring and reviewing security and safety system performance. International freight forwarding covers importing, exporting and transiting freight. All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policy and procedures, as well as national and global codes of practice and regulations applicable to international freight forwarding.This unit was developed for persons involved in advising on and managing security and safety in international freight transport as part of advanced international freight forwarding functions.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment include:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

implementing contingency plans including when there is a breach of the security and safety procedures

implementing transport security and safety plans and policies

modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments
