Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to monitor safety compliance of vegetation control work in an electrical supply industry (ESI) environment.It includes observing, spotting, rendering warnings to stop unsafe work activities, and/or encroachment of ordinary persons, public, personnel and mobile plant and equipment into the safe approach distance (SAD) as defined for persons and mobile plant and equipment. A person designated as a safety observer and solely dedicated to the role normally carries out this work.It also includes the preparation of risk assessment control measures, including job safety assessment. All work and zones are undertaken in compliance with relevant state or territory regulatory agencies/bodies, local government legislation, industry bi-partite body guidelines/codes of practice or other related requirements for safe work and access near live electrical and mechanical apparatus.The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace.Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.

Element: Prepare to control and monitor safety compliance for vegetation work near live electrical apparatus
  • Work plan and workplace procedures are received, confirmed and communicated with relevant personnel
       
Element: Work is prioritised and sequenced for completion within acceptable timeframes following consultation with relevant personnel and in accordance with workplace procedures

  • WHS/OHS, sustainable energy and environmental principles and practices are monitored and followed to reduce incidents of accidents in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Requirements for lifting, climbing, working at heights and the use of power tools/equipment are followed in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Person designated as safety observer positions themselves to obtain an unobstructed view of the vegetation control work
