This unit describes the performance outcomes required to carry out post-production inspections and tests of vehicles, components and systems.

It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.

1. Plan inspection and tests

1.1 Work order and specifications are reviewed and inspection and test requirements determined

1.2 Inspection and test procedures are identified and confirmed

1.3 Inspection test tools and equipment are selected and checked

2. Conduct inspections and tests

2.1 Vehicles, components and systems are inspected and tested for functional operation to ensure specifications, tolerances and workplace standards are met

2.2 Surfaces are inspected and tested against job specifications and workplace quality standards

2.3 Inspection is completed according to workplace procedures

3. Identify faults

3.1 Vehicles, components and systems not meeting job specifications and workplace quality standards are identified

3.2 Faults are labelled according to workplace procedures

4. Record and report findings

4.1 Appropriate workplace forms are selected for recording faults

4.2 Job sheets and work orders are completed according to workplace procedures

4.3 Inspection and testing results are reported to appropriate personnel
