Prepare materials for fabrication using manual processes

Application

This unit describes the performance outcomes required to identify and prepare materials for fabrication using manual processes.

It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a specialist level

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Plan and prepare

1.1 Workplace procedures are identified and followed

1.2 Job specifications, working drawings and calculations are identified and interpreted

1.3 Tools, equipment and resources are selected and inspected, and faults reported

2. Select fabrication materials

2.1 Fabrication materials are identified and prepared according to job specifications and working drawings

2.2 Defective materials are set aside for scrap or rework

3. Bend, shape and fabricate material

3.1 Bending, shaping and fabricating processes are applied according to job specifications and working drawings

3.2 Material distortion prevention measures are identified and applied according to job requirements

3.3 Bent, shaped and fabricated materials are checked against job specifications or working drawings

4. Complete the job

4.1 Work area is cleaned, and materials disposed of or recycled according to workplace procedures

4.2 Tools and equipment are cleaned, checked and stored according to workplace procedures

4.3 Faulty equipment is tagged and reported

4.4 Work sheets are completed according to workplace procedures

Foundation Skills

This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to performance.

Range Statement

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Workplace procedures must include:

procedures for recording and reporting the preparation of materials for fabrication
