Application

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to promote the use of low and zero carbon energy technologies in residential buildings. It includes assessing the potential for use, and advising on the selection of low and zero carbon energy technologies.

The unit supports the work of NatHERS assessors engaged in promoting low and zero carbon energy technologies.

In some jurisdictions, this unit of competency may form part of the accreditation, licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements for NatHERS assessors.

Assess potential for use of low and zero carbon technologies.

Needs, circumstances and motivations of client regarding the use of low and zero carbon energy technologies are identified.

Site inspection is planned to determine viability of using low and zero carbon energy technologies.

Potential hazards associated with conducting a site inspection are identified to ensure risks are suitably managed.

Tools, equipment and other requirements for site inspection are identified and arrangements are made to ensure their availability on day of inspection.

Evidence of Performance

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also promote low and zero carbon energy technologies to a client for one residential building by assessing the potential for the use of the technologies, and advising on the selection of appropriate low and zero carbon energy technologies.

In doing the above, the person must:

conduct a site inspection as part of assessing the potential for the use of the technologies in the building

identify potential opportunities and constraints regarding the use of the technologies in the building

advise client on the selection and use of low and zero carbon energy technologies.

Assessor requirements

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
