Application

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to meet the regulatory requirements associated with swimming pool and spa servicing. It involves identifying relevant regulatory requirements, complying with regulatory requirements when servicing swimming pools and spas, and dealing with incidents of non-compliance.

The unit supports the work of those engaged in servicing domestic, commercial and public swimming pools and spas. It applies to swimming pool and spa technicians.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.

Identify regulatory requirements applicable to swimming pool and spa servicing.

Legislative and regulatory requirements are clarified and confirmed to ensure accuracy and consistency of interpretation and application.

Apply knowledge of regulatory and enterprise requirements to own practice.

Evidence of Performance

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also safely:

demonstrate compliance with three different regulatory requirements applicable to swimming pool and spa technicians when undertaking swimming pool and spa servicing

implement procedures for responding to three different incidents of non-compliance with regulatory requirements applicable to swimming pool and spa technicians.

In doing the above, the person must:

identify the legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to swimming pool and spa servicing

implement procedures for monitoring changes to legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to swimming pool and spa technicians.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

building codes, including National Construction Code (NCC) information on:

swimming pool and spa features and accessories

swimming pool and spa safety

swimming pools and spas

swimming pool and spa safety barriers

enterprise policies and procedures for ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory framework applicable to swimming pool and spa technicians

enterprise process for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislative and regulatory framework applicable to swimming pool and spa technicians

relevant bodies with carriage and enforcement responsibilities for legislative and regulatory framework applicable to swimming pool and spa technicians.


Assessment Conditions

The following must be present and available to learners during assessment activities:

Assessment activities are performed on an individual basis under general supervision.

Assessor requirements

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
