Application
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to conduct staff training in hazard identification and waste emergency responses. The unit covers training small groups in the work health and safety (WHS) requirements and practices in the waste management workplace, and reviewing and documenting training processes.
The unit supports those who work in lead roles in a waste management team.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.

Evidence of Performance
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.
The person must also organise and deliver training for hazard identification and waste emergency responses to two learners.
For each learner, the person must:
plan learning programs suitable to the learner’s characteristics and needs
provide the following details to the learner in a timely manner:
training attendance requirements
location
proposed outcome of training
reason for instruction or demonstration
organise the learning environment and selecting, checking, using and storing of appropriate emergency and personal protective equipment (PPE)
train staff in hazard and risk identification and emergency response processes and systems, including:
emergency escape details and all-clear procedures
critical plant operator personnel procedures
accounting for all personnel after emergency evacuation has been completed
containing and isolating emergency situation
clean up
train staff in containing and isolating waste procedures
evaluate training effectiveness and identify necessary improvements
follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

Assessment Conditions
The following must be present and available to learners during assessment activities:

Assessor requirements
As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
