Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to vision mix television productions from a studio control room or an outside broadcast van.
It applies to individuals who mix components from a variety of sources to create composite images, transitions and effects for live or pre-recorded television productions. They apply a broad range of technical and communication skills in an operational role.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. 2. Evidence of the ability to:
prepare vision mixing documentation that clearly shows when actions and effects need to be taken and includes strategies for dealing with unforeseen circumstances during productions
collaboratively explore creative approaches to vision mixing
check vision mixing equipment is functioning correctly prior to start of productions
check required actions, effects and processes are cued to facilitate smooth mixing of vision inputs
mix a range of vision inputs that meet creative and technical requirements, in collaboration with others
resolve problems with equipment and vision inputs by applying contingency plans.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
outline roles and responsibilities of production personnel involved with vision mixing operations
list and describe typical effects and processes required for productions
briefly describe the equipment and resources available for vision mixing, including any limitation of equipment
identify typical problems that arise in context of vision mixing television productions, and briefly describe solutions.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
facilities for television broadcasting and webcasting or live streaming
vision mixing equipment
materials to be broadcast
interaction with others.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
