Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to explore aspects of music culture in Australian society, and to apply that information to own music making.
It applies to individuals entering the music industry, who are identifying positive values in a selected musical style, as well as the repertoire, challenges and technology relevant to that style. This work is undertaken under close supervision and guidance.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Evidence of Performance
Evidence of the ability to:
source and document information on selected musical styles and repertoire, and Australian music culture
apply information to own music making
discuss music culture with others who make music.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
outline social, cultural, historical and economic significance of a selected musical style in Australian society
outline technology used for producing and enhancing music in a selected musical style in Australian society
outline challenges likely to arise for working musicians, and describe ways to address them
describe ways in which music is part of the culture of Australian society.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
a range of relevant and current information sources
appropriate technology to collect, download and store information
interaction with others.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
