Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to compile routine information for broadcast or publication.

It applies to individuals who work under close supervision and are responsible for assisting with the preparation of routine content for media programs, interactive media products, websites, social media and print publications.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Locate information

1.1 Confirm information requirements with relevant personnel

2. Organise information

2.1 From information gathered, select items that meet production requirements

2.2 Highlight key sections of written information to assist with the writing of scripts, narration or copy

2.3 Write brief notes about information that has been gathered verbally

2.4 Submit information to relevant personnel within the agreed timeframe

3. Maintain information sources

3.1 Maintain and continually update a system for information sources and contacts

3.2 Take steps to minimise health risks when using screens and keyboards for extended periods

3.3 File information so that it can be retrieved easily

3.4 Continually monitor information sources to maintain currency of information in line with production requirements

3.5 Evaluate information collection processes for future improvement

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

communicate with relevant personnel during collection and organisation of content

gather and organise information on a variety of topics from reliable sources within given timeframes

establish an efficient system for maintaining information and information sources

monitor and review information sources and collection processes.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline typical challenges that arise collecting and organising content for broadcast and publication, and how to handle these

describe protocols to be observed when gathering culturally sensitive information

outline basic principles of law and codes of practice as they apply to research

briefly describe work health and safety standards as they relate to working for periods of time on computers.


Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

productions or publications that require preparation of content

information sources relevant to various productions or publications

laws and regulations relevant to research materials.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
