Plot and manage cues from musical scores


Application

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to interpret musical scores in conjunction with musical specialists to determine and deliver technical elements of productions in the screen, media, entertainment and events industries.

Individuals who apply these skills are expected to display initiative, judgement and responsibility as they apply analytical and communication skills to the process of plotting cues from musical scores and delivering technical elements from scores during performances.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Criteria

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Interpret musical scores

1.1 In consultation with musical specialists as required, analyse scores to identify technical requirements

1.2 Confirm interpretation of technical requirements with relevant personnel and take direction on changes

1.3 Make accurate notations on scores according to information received

2. Prepare technical references from scores

2.1 Prepare technical references according to musical and literary text and in a format that meets organisational requirements

2.2 Plot technical elements, including appropriate technical notations

2.3 Clearly note cues that relate to musical performances

2.4 Identify and discuss issues that need to be addressed in consultation with others involved in plotting cues for performances

2.5 Update documentation to reflect outcome of discussions as required

2.6 Finalise documentation according to timelines and incorporate with other production documentation

3. Deliver technical elements of productions

3.1 Follow scores or technical references and constantly monitor musical activity

3.2 Take accurate and timely action to deliver technical elements according to scores and technical references

3.3 Respond appropriately to changed production circumstances and follow musical activity and direction from relevant personnel

3.4 File scores and technical references created from them for future use according to organisational requirements

3.5 In consultation with relevant personnel, evaluate own work performance and note areas for future improvement

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

plot cues from musical scores for at least two performances

use cue reference documents to deliver technical elements from musical scores during performances on at least two occasions

take direction from creative and technical personnel during performances

meet work deadlines

work collaboratively.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.


Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

describe the main features of musical scores and how they relate to the process of plotting cues from scores

explain the range of notations used to create accurate technical references from scores

describe issues and challenges that can arise when plotting and managing cues from scores, along with solutions to address them.


Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to musical scores and performances which require the plotting and managing of cues from scores.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
