Apply a knowledge of the service environment

This unit covers the competency required to apply knowledge of the service environment to the development and implementation of current work practice, procedures and policy.

Application

This competency normally applies to the individual who is required to develop and implement an explosive ordnance and/or weapons systems policy.

An understanding of the service environment in which the explosive ordnance and/or weapons systems are to be deployed and used is an essential consideration in the development and implementation of policy related to them.

Prerequisites

Not applicable.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

1. Determine service environments

1.1 Service environments are identified in accordance with operational requirements

1.2 Environmental extremes related to the service environments are researched and identified

2. Use knowledge of service environments to assist in work and to guide problem solving

2.1 Knowledge of service environments is demonstrated in accordance with work requirements

2.2 Service environment knowledge is identified and considered when providing recommendations and advice

2.3 Service environmental effects on explosive ordnance and/or weapons systems is identified and considered when developing options or recommendations and providing advice

Required Skills

This describes the essential skills and knowledge and their level, required for this unit.

Required Skills

apply environmental extremes in service operating environment

apply service environment knowledge relevant to work being performed

interpret environmental effects relevant to explosive ordnance

Required Knowledge

environmental effects relevant to explosive ordnance

environmental extremes in service operating environment

service environment knowledge relevant to work being performed

Evidence Required

The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the Performance Criteria, Required Skills and Knowledge, the Range Statement and the Assessment Guidelines for this Training Package.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Assessment must confirm the ability to:

apply service environment knowledge relevant to the work being performed

interpret environmental effects relevant to explosive ordnance

Consistency in performance

Competency should be demonstrated in a range of actual or simulated explosive ordnance contexts.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Context of assessment

Competency should be assessed in the workplace or under conditions which accurately simulate a realistic workplace in accordance with all relevant legislation and service requirements.

Specific resources for assessment

Access is required to:

information related to the operational environment of the Australian Defence Force

Method of assessment

In a public safety environment assessment is usually conducted via direct observation in a training environment or in the workplace via subject matter supervision and/or mentoring, which is typically recorded in a competency workbook.

Assessment is completed using appropriately qualified assessors who select the most appropriate method of assessment.

Assessment may occur in an operational environment or in an industry-approved simulated work environment. Forms of assessment that are typically used include:

direct observation

interviewing the candidate

journals and workplace documentation

third party reports from supervisors

written or oral questions
