Plan explosive ordnance trials

This unit covers the competency required to plan trials in the explosive ordnance research environment.Explosive ordnance trials are normally conducted to select new weapons systems or explosive ordnance for introduction into the Australian Defence Force.

Application

This competency normally applies to the individual who is required to prepare, plan and monitor/amend trials in the explosive ordnance research environment.

Trials are a common component of explosive ordnance research and involve a large number of personnel both in their planning and implementation. Individuals however, may not necessarily be involved in both the planning and implementation of the research. It is common that individuals involved in the planning are not involved with the implementation of the plan.

In other instances an individual may be involved with both the planning phase and the implementation phase of the trials.

1. Develop trials approach

1.1 Trial requirements are identified, analysed and details are confirmed if necessary by follow-up consultation

1.2 Trial methodologies and procedures are identified, analysed and selected in accordance with procedures

1.3 Trial evaluation procedures are identified, analysed and selected in accordance with procedures

1.4 Task requirements are identified, analysed and selected in accordance with procedures

2. Plan for trials

2.1 Information on resource requirements and availability are obtained or confirmed in accordance with procedures

2.2 Information support systems for the trial, including achievable reporting and recording processes are planned in accordance with the identified requirements

2.3 Coordination issues are negotiated and resolved with others

2.4 Work health and safety (WHS) principles and requirements are identified and observed throughout the trial process and are incorporated in the plan

2.5 Trial plan including appropriate resource requirements and documentation is produced and forwarded to relevant parties in accordance with the identified requirements

3. Monitor trials

3.1 Trial plan is monitored and amended based on changing circumstances in accordance with requirements and procedures

3.2 Liaison is effected with those conducting the trial in accordance with requirements and procedures

4. Analyse and report on trials results

4.1 Data generated by the trial is collected and reported in accordance with the agreed methodology

4.2 Options and recommendations resulting from the trial are provided in a clear and comprehensive format

4.3 Post trial reports, statistical reports and other records are produced and maintained in accordance with requirements

Method of assessment

In a public safety environment assessment is usually conducted via direct observation in a training environment or in the workplace via subject matter supervision and/or mentoring, which is typically recorded in a competency workbook.

Assessment is completed using appropriately qualified assessors who select the most appropriate method of assessment.

Assessment may occur in an operational environment or in an industry-approved simulated work environment. Forms of assessment that are typically used include:

interviewing the candidate

journals and workplace documentation

third party reports from supervisors

written or oral questions
