Application
This unit describes the skills required to carry out initial response to suppress a fire that may occur in an open field, building or storage area; and may be located on land, on board a ship at sea or in harbour, in the air; and may occur in the day or night and under any weather conditions. It also includes the ability to identify the nature and classification of the fire, report the fire and carry out evacuation procedures. This unit applies to those who may be required to provide the initial response to fire. The unit does not cover the competencies needed to become a professional or volunteer firefighter. The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to. Those undertaking this unit would work independently and as part of a team, under direct and/or indirect supervision, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their output. They would perform specific tasks in a defined range of contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication. |
