Provide geospatial technical advice


Application

This unit describes the skills required to provide geospatial technical advice related to geospatial capabilities within a Defence environment. The geospatial capabilities include current and future capability options and are related to current and future Defence operations and training.

This unit was developed for Defence personnel in a geospatial workplace but may be relevant to others who work in this field.

Those undertaking this unit would work independently or as part of a team, under indirect supervision while performing complex tasks, in a small range of familiar contexts. They would use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.

Identify and analyse issues

1.1

Circumstances requiring the provision of advice for operations capabilities are observed, received and clarified in accordance with Australian Defence Force (ADF) regulatory requirements, organisational policy and Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)

1.2

Issues relating to operations capabilities are identified and confirmed through effective consultation with relevant personnel in accordance with SOPs

1.3

Issues are interpreted and analysed to determine the circumstances in accordance with SOPs

1.4

Research of relevant documents and literature is conducted in relation to identified issues and unclear findings are clarified with relevant personnel in accordance with SOPs

Formulate options

2.1

Options are identified and evaluated relating to the provision of current and potential future geospatial capability advice in accordance with SOPs

2.2

Options are prioritised and preferred geospatial capability option is selected in accordance with SOPs

Provide advice

3.1

Advice is formulated and discussed with stakeholders in accordance with SOPs

3.2

Stakeholder requirements are negotiated, incorporated and documented within the proposed advice in accordance with SOPs

3.3

Reports are prepared for concluded advice within specified time and budget in accordance with SOPs
