Application
Conducting tactical questioning will identify detainees suitable for further questioning/interrogation. The process will be conducted as part of a team which will usually include guards. The tactical questioner will not necessarily be an intelligence specialist.
The person being searched and questioned will be detained; the process of handling detainees is not covered by this unit.
Tactical questioning is used in an operational environment to gain information that immediately impacts on the operation. A typical situation would be during the conduct of military operations overseas.

Conduct tactical questioning | 3.1 Appropriateatmosphere is created and maintained throughout the activity 3.2 Questions are asked of the detainee using appropriate questioning technique in accordance with standard procedures 3.3 Line of questioning is developed based on responses 3.4 Questioning technique is adjusted based on responses 3.5 Legal requirements are identified and applied during the activity 3.6 Work health and safety (WHS) requirements and safety precautions are applied throughout the activity |
4. Finalise tactical questioning | 4.1 Responses are recorded and documentation is completed in accordance with standard procedures 4.2 Detainee is classified in accordance with standard procedures 4.3 Information gained during search and questioning is provided to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner |
