Application
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to apply wood and timber product knowledge in the workplace and promote the benefits of wood and timber products to a range of customers and other stakeholders. It involves identifying products and providing accurate information to customers and other stakeholders about those products.
The unit applies to Customer Service/Sales Assistant, Sales and Merchandising Team Leader, Timber Advisor.

methods, preservatives and exposure hazards relating to manufactured timber: engineered products, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), medium density fibreboard (MDF), plywood, and particle board
manufacturer product literature covering features and benefits of wood and timber products
certification and chain of custody schemes and their purpose in the forestry industry
timber grades and their uses for client applications
procedures for matching timber coatings and finishes to specific end uses
wood preservatives and their safety data sheets:
action required to stay up-to-date with product knowledge
procedures for recording and reporting information provided to stakeholders.
Assessment Conditions

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.
Assessor requirements
Assessors must:
hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and
be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and
be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
